“When Good Things Still Feel Disappointing”

Not every beautiful moment feels the way we expect it to.

I just returned from a trip that, on paper, had everything it needed to be refreshing—sunshine, a break in routine, time with people I love. But as the days passed, I found myself carrying something I didn’t expect: disappointment.

And it felt complicated. Because how could I name it disappointing when it was still good?

That’s the tension we often don’t talk about.

We live in a culture that encourages us to find the silver lining before we’ve even processed the storm. We’re taught to count our blessings, move on, stay positive. But sometimes, things don’t land the way we thought they would—and it’s okay to name that.

Gratitude and disappointment can sit at the same table. One doesn’t cancel the other.

Sometimes, it’s a vacation that doesn’t feel restful.Sometimes, it’s a season that didn’t bring the clarity or healing you were praying for.Sometimes, it’s the realization that even in good surroundings, your soul still feels weary.

Here’s the truth I’m holding close: God doesn’t require us to pretend.

In fact, Scripture invites us to pour out our hearts—not just the polished parts, but the real and raw.

“Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.”– Psalm 62:8

That means the ache, the confusion, the unmet expectation… all of it belongs in your conversation with Him.

So if you’re walking through a season where good things didn’t feel as good as you hoped, I want to offer you this: You are allowed to name that. It doesn’t make you ungrateful. It makes you honest. And that’s where healing begins.

And if you need someone to sit with you in it? I’m here. This is the kind of work I love doing—processing disappointment, reshaping expectation, and finding the truth hidden underneath it all.

Maybe this week, you don’t need to fix anything.Maybe you just need space to name it.

You’re not alone.

With every step,

Marcy
